A NYC Winter
By Ayero Moro, Australian National University, Australia
After 3 months of deep heat, I found myself back in the northern hemisphere. I made friends for life with some girls on exchange and we still make it a habit to travel together and visit each others’ homes. New Years 2024, we went to New York for an East Coast tour.
One of the best moments? Watching my Aussie friends see snowfall for the first time whilst sitting on the met steps. We sat, bundled in scarves and gloves that might as well not have been on.
A funny moment was when I tried to get a bottle of water. Apparently, a British accent IS hard to understand. However, I also discovered you get said water for free after they realise you’re British.
We did the typical things whilst walking everywhere, dancing to street performers on the subway platform after getting lost and watching a Nets game. It was a home game so the energy in the stadium was unreal. We even managed to get seats closer to the court which added that bit of extra excitement.
Included in this tour was a visit to my friends’ house in Philadelphia which was dressed in Christmas decor. We had classic American breakfasts with the massive super large jugs of juice as well as a drive by tour of where she grew up.
