The final trip!
By Laura Docherty, UNSW, Australia UNSW has a three term system which means that we finish lectures in April – so I have a 5 month summer holiday! To kick it off, me and a group of friends decided to hire a motor home and do a 2 week road trip around the South Island of New Zealand. When I found out I was coming to Australia I wasn’t sure whether I would want to or be able to get over to New Zealand, but having done so, I am so glad that I did! It is quite an expensive country even in comparison to Australia so it requires a…

Two weeks in Western Australia
By Laura Docherty, UNSW, Australia Yesterday I got back to Sydney from an incredible 2 week road trip in WA, from Margaret River to Coral Bay. We used Camplify to rent a car with two rooftop tents and flew to Perth to pick up our new home for the next fortnight! We had planned out our route before leaving Sydney to try and fit as much in as possible but when we arrived we heard there was a tropical cyclone warning near Exmouth so had to change our plans a little – wind gusts were up to 45 mph and we were sleeping in tents on the top of a…

Exploring the Aussie East Coast
by Laura Docherty, University of New South Wales, Australia One of the only downsides to studying at UNSW is that as it follows a 3 term system, the holidays are much shorter than almost every other university in Australia; for example USYD have over 3 months off over Christmas, whereas we have 7 weeks. This means that any travelling you want to do has to be meticulously planned to fit everything in, as Australia is so huge. Hence, for the past 4 weeks I have been backpacking down the East Coast and have just arrived back in Sydney in time for Christmas and New Year. Here are some of the…

A Camping Trip in the Aussie Outback
By Laura Docherty, University of New South Wales, Australia Last weekend I was able to book onto a group camping trip in the Northern Territory, to see Uluru (Ayers Rock) and go hiking in the Red Centre. It was incredible and I would definitely recommend visiting NT; it is so different from everything else I have seen in Australia!

My First Australian Road Trip
By Laura Docherty, University of New South Wales, Australia Having been in Sydney for over a month now, I have really started to settle in and get to grips with life down under! I wanted to make sure I use my free time as wisely as possible whilst I’m here and go on as many trips as I can; the first of which was a road trip down the coast to Jervis Bay.

Tips and tricks for moving to Sydney
By Laura Docherty, University of New South Wales, Australia I have now been in Sydney for one week – and so much has happened already! I have begun to settle in by making some new friends, finally finding an apartment(!) and having my first lecture. After leaving my parents at Heathrow with a few teary goodbyes I had the 11.5 hour journey to Bangkok followed by a 9 hour flight to Sydney, so it’s safe to say I was exhausted when I arrived at my hostel. However, the view of Coogee beach from our window made up for it! I met up with a few girls from Manchester and went…
