    Reflections on Amsterdam

    July 4, 2023 /

By Hannah Carter-Moore, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands Two days ago I moved back to the UK. There’s a lot to process so please do get comfy and indulge in the sentimentality with me for a sec. It honestly feels like last week since I made the move to Amsterdam in the first place. To put it in just a few words, it’s been a transformative year. The process of moving to a new country, nurturing new friendships and finding my feet as an outsider-turned-local seemed intimidating at first but has turned out to be one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Lovely things lately in Amsterdam (summer’s a-coming)

    May 27, 2023 /

By Hannah Carter-Moore, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands While your year abroad certainly brings both its ups and downs, time in Amsterdam lately has been filled with those moments of god I love my life. The weeks connecting April to May are a pretty unparalleled time for UvA students as, bar Christmas, it’s the only time you get an official break. Writing this post was so nice for me as it’s put some of my highlights in one place, and will maybe also offer some things to look forward to if Amsterdam is your study abroad destination.

    Amsterdammer Diaries: First* Month Favourites

    November 7, 2022 /

*and second By Hannah Carter-Moore, University of Amsterdam The fact that I haven’t had time until now to sit down and write my first blog since arriving here in ‘Dam should give you a sense of what a full on experience it’s been so far.  I’m currently sitting on my sweet canal-side terrace trying to catch the last rays before Amsterdam plunges into Winter, finally taking the moment to reflect on this crazy past month.

How to not be homeless in Amsterdam (some hopefully helpful housing advice)

    October 31, 2022 /

By Hannah Carter-Moore, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands Nowhere does a housing crisis quite like Amsterdam. When I was in the midst of looking at all the options for accommodation, I wished I had someone to just tell me what to do – so that’s what I’m doing here.

Same thing. Said two ways. Both agree that you should apply now. #uom_goabroad Some of the fun activities and events that Rutgers has put on for free for all students! A stand-up set by Caleb Hearon, basketball games, a Coach pop-up event, a trip to see the New Jersey Devils play and a trip to the United Nations in New York! - GA Amy 🏀🇺🇸 #globalambassador #uom_goabroad My trip to New York in December, as a layover on my way home. I went to the top of the rock, watched a show, and visited the MET. For students on a travel grant especially, a long layover is a great way to see new places, especially if your journey home is as long as the one from Australia to the UK. - GA Lily ✈️🇺🇸 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students completing an international experience! Open to any student completing a study abroad, summer school, or a work, internship or traineeship placement in 2026 🌍 First snow in New Jersey, the east coast gets cold and new weather conditions is all part of the new experiences on exchange! - GA Amy ❄ #uom_goabroad #globalambassador I had an incredible time travelling up the east coast of Australia in December with another of the GAs, visiting the Gold Coast up to Magnetic Island. We had the chance to get up close to a Koala, but one leg of the journey was 17 hours by coach! - GA Lily 🇦🇺🐨🦘 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador GA Lily - My trip to Bangkok and Ho Chi Mihn City for my first semester break. It was a surprisingly easy and affordable trip from Australia, and well worth it for the night markets and food alone. 🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Want to capture memories of your study abroad whilst boosting your CV and enhancing your personal development - become a Global Ambassador❗️ Applications are open, find more info in our linktree (in our bio) 🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Would you like to join an interdisciplinary cohort of master’s students interested in leadership and community engagement - and spend a few years in Canada?🇨🇦
