Reflecting On My Exchange Year: Why Studying Abroad Is Worth It

    March 24, 2025 /

By Zarina Patel, University of Toronto, Canada I could go on FOREVER about why studying abroad is worth it. From making friends across the world to accessing learning opportunities you might not have had the chance to have otherwise. There are sacrifices which have to be made when doing a year abroad. You will inevitably graduate a year after some of your first and second year course or housemates. You might spend a Christmas away from home. But…

Academics Abroad: Adjusting to UofT’s Teaching Style

    December 11, 2024 /

By Zarina Patel, University of Toronto, Canada Despite being the underlying purpose of why you are there, the actual process of studying at a university abroad isn’t talked about enough! Being a student at the University of Toronto has been the most academically enriching opportunity of my life. I speak from my experiences as a UofT Psychology exchange student. Nevertheless, my advice is generalised, to help smooth the transition from studying at UoM to your host uni.

    November 29, 2024 /

By Zarina Patel, University of Toronto, Canada Moving “across the pond” (a phrase I’ve heard one too many times) was arguably the scariest, yet most unregrettable thing I’ve done. In this blog, I’m going to break down what to do in your first few weeks after landing in the city! Although my advice stems from my experience at the University of Toronto, it can be applicable to any exchange student!

"My first two weeks in Perth! I’ve had a proper Aussie induction through AFL and rugby games, meeting a koala (and snake!) and decorating my own boomerang. Despite it being winter, I have also spent a lot of time by the sea, at Scarborough and Cottelsoe Beaches and visited Matilda Bay on Swan River (not even a 5 minute walk from campus). Through St Catherine’s College, I attended my first Formal Hall (the academic gown) and visited an incredible viewpoint overlooking the Perth skyline." from our GA Elizabeth in Australia 🐨🇦🇺🧡 #uomgoabroad #globalambassador A week in the life at our summer school in Siena ☀️🇮🇹🍕📚🍦🌅 #uom_goabroad Here are photos from my end of year trip from Yosemite, Zion and Joshua Tree National Parks from our Global Ambassador Lucy 🧡 #uomgoabroad #globalambassador Some pics from our summer school students who are currently my in Bordeaux, France (yes, the summer school has its very own dog) ☀🇫🇷🥐 #uomgoabroad These are from my journey on the California Zephyr Amtrak train, from Chicago to San Francisco. The journey was 56 hours but the views of the Rockies and Sierra Nevada were incredible! It is a great trip to do to see more of the USA and also be more sustainable as your carbon emissions are much lower travelling by train compared to flying. - GA Lucy 🚉 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador The last year of my life without a doubt has been the most incredible. I met wonderful people, tasted things I couldn't have imagined and saw the most beautiful sights. Not only did I get to learn a language, but I got to learn about our amazing world and more importantly, Mexico. In my last few weeks, I had the privilege of continuing my travels within Mexico and getting to see how my friends from UDLAP grew up and the culture that raised them. With so many colours even in the streets, its no surprise my friends are so joyful. México, te extraño mucho <3 🇲🇽🧡 Sunny afternoon in Amsterdam - GA Lily ☀️🇳🇱 Go Abroad is hiring! 📣 Photos from our GA Kara's semester in New Zealand - featuring the Routeburn track! 🇳🇿 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador
