Maryland Dhoom: A home away from home

    January 4, 2020 /

*Maryland Dhoom is The University of Maryland’s competitive South Asian Fusion Dance Team.* Dancing used to be a hobby and now it’s a passion of mine. Therefore, before travelling to America, I knew I wanted to join a dance team.  However,  I didn’t know whether to carry on doing Bollywood and Bharathanatyam (Indian classical) or experience every American college girl’s dream- getting on to the cheerleading team. I decided to audition for a few teams before auditioning for Maryland Dhoom. Pretty much all the teams rejected me because they required at least one year commitment and I am only there for a semester. It was upsetting because I spent so…

College in America Vs University in England (Seven differences)

    October 20, 2019 /

I study Chemical Engineering, and I am only taking Chemical Engineering modules at UMD. So the differences listed below are based on what I have experienced. (It may be different for other courses at UMD). 1.Everyone writes in pencil here! Over the past few weeks, I have realised how much I cross out with pen and waste so much paper. Let me tell you a funny story. In one of my classes, I decided to take notes on paper using a pencil instead of pen. I had to erase something, but I did not have a rubber in my pencil case. So, I turned to the person next to me…

    Start of something new

    September 1, 2019 /

Thulase Sivapooranan The University of Maryland, USA Tuesday 20th of August 18:30 Moving-in Day I was standing in front of numerous tall, looming crimson-bricked and white-pillared buildings, both my small hands occupied: one holding onto a suitcase the size of me and the other clutching my phone with a mere 5% charge. No one was around; I did not know where to go; I was hours late to check-in at my accommodation! Did it get worse? Yes. Booming claps of thunder echoed from above and a heavy downpour of rain followed.  There were booming bursts of thunder and it suddenly started to rain heavily. I never felt so isolated; I…

Some pictures from the start of my second semester at ANU! I've had a wonderful time visiting a local vineyard, a sunflower maze, going in a hot air balloon at the Canberra balloon spectacular and watching the skyfire fireworks over lake burley griffin with friends :) - GA Lily 🎈🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Same thing. Said two ways. Both agree that you should apply now. #uom_goabroad Some of the fun activities and events that Rutgers has put on for free for all students! A stand-up set by Caleb Hearon, basketball games, a Coach pop-up event, a trip to see the New Jersey Devils play and a trip to the United Nations in New York! - GA Amy 🏀🇺🇸 #globalambassador #uom_goabroad My trip to New York in December, as a layover on my way home. I went to the top of the rock, watched a show, and visited the MET. For students on a travel grant especially, a long layover is a great way to see new places, especially if your journey home is as long as the one from Australia to the UK. - GA Lily ✈️🇺🇸 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students completing an international experience! Open to any student completing a study abroad, summer school, or a work, internship or traineeship placement in 2026 🌍 First snow in New Jersey, the east coast gets cold and new weather conditions is all part of the new experiences on exchange! - GA Amy ❄ #uom_goabroad #globalambassador I had an incredible time travelling up the east coast of Australia in December with another of the GAs, visiting the Gold Coast up to Magnetic Island. We had the chance to get up close to a Koala, but one leg of the journey was 17 hours by coach! - GA Lily 🇦🇺🐨🦘 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador GA Lily - My trip to Bangkok and Ho Chi Mihn City for my first semester break. It was a surprisingly easy and affordable trip from Australia, and well worth it for the night markets and food alone. 🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Want to capture memories of your study abroad whilst boosting your CV and enhancing your personal development - become a Global Ambassador❗️ Applications are open, find more info in our linktree (in our bio) 🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador
