Vegetarian Food in Singapore and Southeast Asia
By Micha Raja, Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore Coming to Singapore, I was initially nervous about the options for vegetarians and whether I would have enough variety of food to choose from. After having lived here for 3 months now, I can confirm, the variety of vegetarian options is incredible! Not only are there pure vegetarian restaurants but even some of the Hawker Centres have pure vegetarian food stalls. There has not been a single day I have struggled with food. One of my favourite go-to foods in the Hawker centres here is a Masala Dosa. There are lots of other Indian food options as well but also Southeast Asian cuisine can be made…

A Singapore Semester 1 Summary…
By Micha Raja, Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore As Semester 1 draws to a close, I find myself full of several emotions – gratitude, excitement and disbelief at how quickly the past 3 months have flown by. I arrived in Singapore 3 months ago, completely alone with not a clue how the year was going to play out. I was nervous arriving, not sure if I would make friends, settle in well or enjoy the new academic culture I was about to take on. Everything felt so unfamiliar and I remember wondering how long it would take before Singapore started to feel like home. Now I am writing this blog feeling like a completely…

My First Week in Singapore…
By Micha Raja, Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore My first week in Singapore was crazy, jam-packed, and exciting. I felt so busy everyday even though Uni hadn’t started yet. The first couple of days, I spent settling in, buying house necessities with my flatmates and doing that first big grocery shop. This was really exciting though as it allowed me to explore the area and find out the cheapest stores to shop at. I landed a couple of days before Singapore National Day. As it was their 60th anniversary this year, the celebrations were very big! We headed to Marina Bay Sands and watched the jet show and the fireworks…

From Strangers to Friends
By Cher Morente, Singapore Management University, Singapore Many travel to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat, infamously known as the real-life Temple Run but, after coming across videos of Koh Rong, I knew I couldn’t skip it. SMU: A Review
By Courtney Blincow, Singapore Management University, Singapore It’s that time of the year again. All exams are complete and summer is approaching. Usually, this is my favourite time of year; the responsibilities of uni are gone and I can just focus on enjoying my time off. This year is different because, although I have no more academic stresses, I am being hit with the reality that my year abroad is over. SMU has been an amazing and exciting adventure that has consumed my life for the past year and the fact that I now have to say goodbye is crazy. Having spent so much time on campus and with the…

Thriving Abroad While Missing Home
By Cher Morente, Singapore Management University, Singapore Revealing the ugly and hard-to-swallow truths about living abroad. Studying abroad has been the best thing I have ever done. The people I’ve met, the places I’ve seen and the things I have learnt. But, it is also undeniably one of the hardest things I’ve done up to date. As someone who has been independent the majority of her life, especially wanting to escape from her little town in the North of England, being homesick was the last thing I could have ever imagined. And it created a constant internal conflict within because, to me, being in a new place filled with new…

Birthday Bliss in Bali
By Cher Morente, Singapore Management University, Singapore A gratitude-filled trip to celebrate surviving the first year of my 20s. Follow to see how I did Bali in 5 days. Some may find it cliche but, I feel like a trip to Bali is a must for exchange students coming to South East Asia – and this is coming from someone who had low expectations due to the hype built by the media.

Tips for Island Hopping in the Philippines
By Courtney Blincow, Singapore Management University, Singapore Having completed my first semester at Singapore Management University, my friends and I decided to book a 10 day trip island hopping around the Philippines. Surely when studying on an exchange year it is only right that we reward our hard work with a trip to a surrounding country, right? Well this is exactly what we did and 3 days after my final exam I was on a flight out of Changi Airport to Cebu City.
