The Best Easy Hikes in Hong Kong

By Madeleine Dodd, Hong Kong Polytechnic University Hong Kong, Hong Kong

My 3 must-do hike recommendations for those who want amazing views of Hong Kong without the need for experience.

Dragons Back

There are many different routes and finishing points for this one, we actually got a bit lost and had to do the last leg by minibus to reach our destination of Shek O Beach. It took around 4 hours but was not challenging to do (other than the heat!).

Sheung Luk Waterfall

From one of the best beaches in Hong Kong, Tai Long Wan in Sai Wan, this short hike leads you to a glistening waterfall. Simply take a boat from Sai Kung harbour to the beach, then follow the stream up the trail to the waterfall where you can swim and cliff jump.

We actually furthered the hike into Sai Kung East Country park and returned to Sai Kung village via bus rather than boat. We saw an amazing sunset that made the 2 hour walk in the pitch black worth it!

Luggard Road Lookout

Another short hike (more of a walk really) to be taken at sunset to capture iconic views of the skyscrapers and neon lights of Hong Kong. Watching as the sun sets and the city lights up the night is a truly memorable experience.
