Festivals, Events, and Why Canberra Surprised Me

    May 8, 2026 /

By Lily Amos, Australian National University, Canberra, Australia Before I moved to Canberra, my expectations for its social calendar were, honestly, modest. Here are the highlights worth knowing about. Canberra Balloon Spectacular Every March, hot air balloons launch over the city…

    Montréal summer loving

    June 17, 2016 /

Harry at McGill in Montréal   In just over a week I will be catching a flight from Pierre-Trudeau airport exactly three hundred and eleven days after arriving there to begin my year of exchange. To say a lot of has happened since then, true as it is, would be a little underwhelming and doesn’t seem to do justice to quite how busy Montréal and McGill are. I previously mentioned I was set to start a summer research position in the McGill chemistry department, which was how I could afford to stay in Montréal another two months, and it has transpired to be a very rewarding experience. Spent the weekend in Boston exploring Fenway Park, Harvard, the MassArt Museum and more! The T made it easy to get everywhere while keeping things a bit more sustainable. - GA Amy ❄🚄 🌍#globalambassador #uom_goabroad A weekend trip to Washington DC! Perfect place for politics and history students as it was very educational with free museums and historical buildings to visit! - GA Amy 🇺🇸🧡 #globalambassador #uom_goabroad Our Global Ambassadors write blog posts about their experience studying abroad to inspire and help future students, developing skills from effective communication to storytelling 📝 Interested? Apply now - the deadline is next Friday! 🤩 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Some pictures from the start of my second semester at ANU! I've had a wonderful time visiting a local vineyard, a sunflower maze, going in a hot air balloon at the Canberra balloon spectacular and watching the skyfire fireworks over lake burley griffin with friends :) - GA Lily 🎈🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Same thing. Said two ways. Both agree that you should apply now. #uom_goabroad Some of the fun activities and events that Rutgers has put on for free for all students! A stand-up set by Caleb Hearon, basketball games, a Coach pop-up event, a trip to see the New Jersey Devils play and a trip to the United Nations in New York! - GA Amy 🏀🇺🇸 #globalambassador #uom_goabroad My trip to New York in December, as a layover on my way home. I went to the top of the rock, watched a show, and visited the MET. For students on a travel grant especially, a long layover is a great way to see new places, especially if your journey home is as long as the one from Australia to the UK. - GA Lily ✈️🇺🇸 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students completing an international experience! Open to any student completing a study abroad, summer school, or a work, internship or traineeship placement in 2026 🌍 First snow in New Jersey, the east coast gets cold and new weather conditions is all part of the new experiences on exchange! - GA Amy ❄ #uom_goabroad #globalambassador
