Best Places to Travel from Singapore – My Top Picks from a Year Abroad

    July 11, 2025 /

Written by Felecia Ogunnuga, National University of Singapore, Singapore As I sit on the plane heading home after a transformative year in Singapore, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible travel experiences that shaped my exchange. While many students chose to travel throughout the semester, I took a slightly different route, saving my big trip for the end of the year. With Singapore’s Changi Airport being the largest and most connected in Southeast Asia, it’s the perfect launchpad for affordable travel across the region. Here are the destinations that stood out most during my time abroad. 1. Tioman Island, Malaysia – Underrated Paradise Tioman Island is one of Southeast Asia’s hidden…

    Food Tourism in Flogsta

    March 10, 2020 /

Not too long ago, I heard a rumour about an Ethiopian restaurant run from a bedroom somewhere amongst the brutalist blocks in Flogsta. Though I was told so little about it that it seemed mythical and even absurd. How could someone possibly do that? Where would they sleep? Is it profitable?

Why I Chose to Stay in America Over Christmas

    March 15, 2018 /

I decided to stay in America over the Christmas break instead of flying back home and I would encourage other students to do the same. I was lucky enough to travel to Montreal, New York, Boston and Miami and each destination was completely different from the last. After overcoming the initial loneliness of spending Christmas away from my family, I really valued the opportunity to travel and spend time with other exchange students who were in the same position. Before coming to America my friends and I decided to spend Christmas together in Montreal. This was an easy choice to make for me as the flights home from Cleveland are…

Global Ambassadors write for our study abroad blog and post on social media, documenting their incredible experiences whilst boosting skills such as communication, marketing and confidence ⭐️ Applications open on Monday for anyone studying abroad for a full year or semester in 26/27 - don’t miss out! 🤩 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Some pics from our GA Nadine in Budapest - This is ELTE's very own botanical gardens situated just northeast of the city centre. Free to all ELTE students, not many seem to know about it but it is a great place that offers the perfect escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of life! 🇭🇺🌸 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Some photos from a recent hike I walked called Remete-Szurdok (aka Hermit's Gorge). Taking us around 2/2.5hrs to walk 6/7km the trail was quite a steep climb but absolutely worth it! - GA Nadine ✨ #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Maximise your study abroad by applying to be a Global Ambassador 🌍 Applications open next Monday, 20th April but you can start your application now - all of the application information is on My Placement which you can access via our Linktree! 🧡 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador Photos from GA Orla’s spring break, visiting Panama City Beach in Florida and Chicago. ☀️🌆🏖️ GA Lucy “Here are photos from spring break in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Had an incredible time seeing both cities, experiencing a true American spring break, and I loved visiting the everglades” 🇺🇸🌴 #globalambassador #uom_goabroad Are you going on a study abroad next year?🌍 Photos taken by our GA Deborah at Calgary Zoo 🐧🦒 - In the photos, the one of me is in the botanical garden where they also have a butterfly garden (butterflies come out in the summer so they weren’t out yet). And the other pictures are of the flamingos, hippos, giraffe and penguins. They had animals from everywhere the zoo was split into each continent! #uom_goabroad #globalambassador These photos are from my trip to New Orleans, one of my favourite cities I have ever been to with so much history and culture. We had so much fun seeing the city, the historic cemeteries, going to the swamp and doing a ghost and voodoo tour of the city! - GA Lucy 🇺🇸 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador
