Life Around NUS

By Ruohan Zhang, National University of Singapore, Asia

Today, I’m going to share about my life around NUS and my accommodation~

I stayed in R2 in PGP Residences during my exchange study, with sharing toilet, kitchen, laundry room, gym and common study space. My overall experience in PGP was great, I met lots of new friends and had fun in my exchange, but wish for luck when you are applying, because most room haven’t got air-con, like mine room.

You occasionally see different animals around PGP, like monkeys, otters and different type of birds around your way to the canteen or way to the bus stop. (Image is a monkey I’ve met in PGP on my way to the canteen)

If you like park and exploring, then PGP can be the perfect place for you. Get on the A1 and go for get out for Clementi, there is a park perfect for running.

Another place to go is Botanic Garden, just hop on BTC and you get there straight away. If you are interested in orchids, Singapore’s National Orchid Garden is also there, with your student card, the ticket is only 1 dollar (Botanic Garden is free of ticket).

My room in PGP~

When I was applying for accommodation, I apply for AC rooms but I got a non-ac room when being assigned. According to a NUS friend, she said PGP got way more bugs than Utown, but PGP is more convenient for getting around (it is very close to Kent Ridge MRT station). And with those room that are non-ac, you can apply for permission to have a portable ac in your room (with extra charge), but places like Starbucks, the library, common study space all have ac on, so if you are not a big fan of the hot weather or portable ac, you can always stay outside!
