Things to do in Sydney!
By Valentina Calcagni, University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia

What a few months it’s been!
Hi 🙂 My name is Valentina Calcagni, and I left the rainy UK for Sydney on July 15th. Three months later, I still feel like this gorgeous city has so much more to offer.
Sydney is truly stunning, with its iconic skyline, beautiful beaches, and vibrant culture. There’s always something to do, whether it’s exploring the bustling markets (Glebe is my personal favorite), enjoying the nightlife, or soaking up the sun at the beach.
Lets go to the beach!

Bondi is overrated.
I’m sorry, I had to say it! If a big beach full of tourists is what you want, then maybe you’ll think it’s worth the hype. Hun, it’s not.
Sydney’s coastline is breathtaking, and the other beaches here are stunning. My personal favorites are Manly Beach, Clovelly (where this gorgeous photo was taken) and Bronte. As summer approaches here down under, I can’t get enough of the seaside.
Sydney’s Food is UNREAL.
I’ve never quite realised how much I was missing out on in the UK when it comes to the culinary scene. Whilst the Domino’s over here doesn’t really compare, and I still have dreams about a chicken supreme burger from Chester’s, the food over here does not get the hype it deserves! From fresh seafood to diverse international cuisine, every meal incredible. I’ve loved exploring local cafes, enjoying street food, and dining at trendy restaurants.

Get in loser, we are going to the mountains!
Fancy a hot girl walk? Why not do it in the incredible scenery of the Blue Mountains? Only an hour train ride from Sydney, and definitely somewhere I would take newcomers. Hiking through the lush trails, taking in the stunning views of the valleys, and experiencing the natural beauty of this region was an unforgettable adventure.
Time to Ride the Waves…
Did you go to Australia if you didn’t have a go at surfing?
I finally took the plunge and signed up for a surf camp, and let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made! The thrill of catching my first wave is something I’ll never forget. Sure, I spent more time tumbling into the ocean than standing on the board at first, but each wipeout only made me more determined. The instructors were fantastic, and the camaraderie among fellow surf campers made it all the more enjoyable.
While I’m still a newbie, surf camp has found my inner Aussie and I can’t wait to hit the waves again!
