Hygge – a cabin trip to Fitjar
By Talitha Hamshaw, University of Bergen, Norway A big part of Norwegian culture is cabin trips. Most Norwegian families will have at least one cabin which they rent out or visit at certain times of year. Luckily for me, my Norwegian friend Christina’s family own a cabin in her home town which is a couple of hours drive away from Bergen, so we planned a trip there for a couple of nights.

My Welcome week in Bergen:
Georgiana Marinescu, University of Bergen, Norway If you are lucky enough to be accepted into the University of Bergen, you will not regret it; they make you feel at home right away. On the first day of the Welcome Week, all of the new exchange students gathered at the Law Faculty and we were given our wristbands for the week and put into groups. Our groups were supposed to be the people we would spend the rest of the week getting to know, and for me, some of the people in my group became my closest friends.

By Georgiana Marinescu, University of Bergen, Norway In November, me and my friends decided to rent a car and drive to Oslo from Bergen and stay for a few days so we could explore the capital. One Month Back: Transitioning back to UK life after a year abroad
by Jasmine Angus, University of Bergen, Norway In many blog posts, we often read about the transition to a placement country, cultural differences, newfound independence, language barriers, and unforgettable adventures. This transition can be both comforting and homely, yet also asphyxiating and sad. It brings conflicting emotions, as you navigate between newfound independence and your parents asking if you’ll be okay to sort yourself out for dinner. “Yes mum, I’ve been feeding myself for the past 10 months, I think…

One Semester Down: A reflection on my first semester in Bergen, Norway
By Jasmine Angus, University of Bergen, Norway Reflecting upon the past few months in Bergen has been met with an overwhelming sense of happiness, pride, as well as anticipation for the future and sadness that time is passing awfully quickly. Fortunately for me, I have had a solid support network of friends, family, and loved ones that have ensured that each emotion and experience, both the highs and the lows, have been faced with humility and gratitude.
