My first hike in Bergen:
Georgiana Marinescu, University of Bergen, Norway
This is one of those what not to do posts… unless you are experienced.
What I mean by this is, if you are a person that comes from quite a flat area and you are not used to difficult hikes, maybe don’t try hiking three of the most difficult mountains around Bergen on your first hike like me.
This was quite an adventure. I had just become close to some of the people from my course, funnily enough they were all German and the stereotype holds, they were all experienced hikers. I had heard them talking about a hike they were planning on the weekend and asked to join them, thinking they were hiking one mountain and thinking it wouldn’t be too difficult. It was halfway up the first mountain that I realised I was wrong. The three mountains we hiked were Lyderhorn, Damsgårdsfjellet, and Løvstakken. Now I am not saying these were at all impossible mountains to hike, they were all challenging and fun and the views were 100% worth it. What I am saying is I wouldn’t recommend all 3 as a first hike if you are not used to hiking as it is a very tiring journey. However, if you are an avid hiker and love a challenge, Bergen has an annual event where anyone can join in hiking all of the 7 mountains surrounding Bergen in 1 day and there is a record that stands to be beaten.
Personally, I still have some training before I can consider the challenge but here are some photos from my three hike adventure:
