Daintree Rainforest
By Mia Campbell, University of New South Wales, Sidney, Australia
Daintree rainforest being the oldest rainforest in the world, was a different setting from the city Cairns which resembled a beach resort with its renowned night life. Us girls carpooled 2 hours north of Cairns, where we drove against the coast which where no person dared to go due to Cairns being the crocodile capital of Queensland.
Luckily, locals directed us towards croc-free waterholes we jumped from rope swings and swam underneath the rainforest canopy. For my friends 21st birthday we got up just before the crack of dawn to watch the sunset at the beach close to the accommodation we were staying in, with stress from the receptionist the beach is safe, but waters are not to enter. This time, this landscape proposed us with a double threat with blue bottle jellyfish as well as crocodiles. Despite, the questionably safe species which roamed these parts, it is safe to say this was the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen: rose pink with a backdrop of the jungle and beach which laid parallel to this.
