Amsterdam: Top tips for the ultimate ‘coffee and a sweet treat’ guide

    June 3, 2024 /

By Augusta Arron, Universiteit van Amsterdam, The Netherlands If my time studying at Amsterdam this year has taught me anything it has been how much I love to explore cities… and pastries. Cafe’s offer the perfect means to do so, especially for students, providing hotspots for culture, community, food and some amazingly high-grade study sustenance (coffee).

    Fashion Week & Design Week

    May 30, 2024 /

By Txell Borràs, University of Bocconi, Milan, Italy Living in Milan, as soon as the months of February and then April come around, you can feel the excitement and anticipation building in the city. Fashion Week and Design Week aren’t just events; they’re immersive experiences that transform the city—and the life of those living there—into a roller coaster of glamour and creativity, turning what would appear as regular weeks into the highlights of the year.

A day in the heartbeat of glamour, Milano

    May 23, 2024 /

By Txell Borràs, University of Bocconi, Milan, Italy Most of us grew up captivated by the glittering allure of teen dramas such as Gossip Girl or Sex and the City. These shows didn’t just entertain us; they ignited a desire deep within to feel like the main character in a buzzing city, with vibrant nightlife, the endless string of events, glamour and fashion. If there’s one city where this dream comes vividly to life, it’s Milan.

    Travelling (cheap) from Milano

    May 3, 2024 /

By Txell Borràs, University of Bocconi, Milan, Italy I know that being abroad is already an exciting experience: a new city, new people, maybe a new language and culture, and lots of places to see and visit. However, there is no shame on being a little bit too ambitious… Do not limit you experiences to your new home, but take advantage of the opportunity and TRAVEL!

    Dealing With Loneliness

    April 23, 2024 /

By Georgia Reid, Università Bocconi, Italy Studying abroad can be a very exciting time and, for many, a time that they will reminisce on for the rest of their lives. But for some, it will be a very isolating time – not knowing anyone, being far away from home, and in a different time zone from family and friends. So, I have made a list of things to help navigate feelings of loneliness.

Three Day Itinerary for a Weekend in Prague

    April 21, 2024 /

by Elizabeth Ahronson, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic Day 1: Explore the Old Town and Mala Strana After you have arrived in Prague, check into your accommodation and begin by exploring the Old Town Square, the heart of the city. Admire the beautiful architecture and the Astronomical Clock, which attracts hundreds of people each hour. Enjoy a traditional Czech breakfast at one of the many cafes in the centre and maybe try a local pastry called Trdelnik (also known as Chimney Cakes).

    Life After Prague

    April 21, 2024 /

by Elizabeth Ahronson, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic It is hard to believe that nearly a year has passed since I came back from studying abroad in Prague, which has been the best experience of my life to date. Returning home in late June when Prague was thriving with sun and tourists was bittersweet. Whilst I was excited to be close to my family again (and of course cuddle my cats), eat all the foods I missed, and eventually move back to my student house in Manchester, leaving the content, exciting life I had built whilst on my year abroad was very difficult. There may have been tears in my…

    Solo Travelling in the Balkans:

    April 16, 2024 /

By Louis Hazeldine-Cosgrove (Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary.) The Balkans is an infamous area of Eastern Europe, where there is not universal definition on what it consists of. But it is widely known as the belt of post-Yugoslavian and newly established countries: like Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo and so on. Many of which who belong to the ‘balkans’ hold negative connotations. Where war, ethnic instability and political turmoil overshadow the beauty of many of these countries.

From Roaming Rome to Sicilian Serenity: Ranking My First Semester’s Travels

    March 27, 2024 /

Mini Interrail From Paris, to Amsterdam, to Berlin

    March 22, 2024 /

by Elizabeth Ahronson, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic After being home in England for the Christmas period, my friends and I decided to organise a mini-interrail to three cities on our way back to Prague for the summer term. We decided to explore Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin. This was very exciting for all of us as this would be each of our first times in these iconic European cities.

Living in an “Exchange Student” Accommodation

    February 29, 2024 /

By Georgia Reid, Università Bocconi, Italy Bocconi only provides one student accommodation for its exchange students, a large apartment complex called Aparto Giovenale. I was extremely lucky to secure a place there, however, once I arrived it was obvious why so many people struggled to get a place there.

'Cycling through the seasons in Amsterdam' "My first two weeks in Perth! I’ve had a proper Aussie induction through AFL and rugby games, meeting a koala (and snake!) and decorating my own boomerang. Despite it being winter, I have also spent a lot of time by the sea, at Scarborough and Cottelsoe Beaches and visited Matilda Bay on Swan River (not even a 5 minute walk from campus). Through St Catherine’s College, I attended my first Formal Hall (the academic gown) and visited an incredible viewpoint overlooking the Perth skyline." from our GA Elizabeth in Australia 🐨🇦🇺🧡 #uomgoabroad #globalambassador A week in the life at our summer school in Siena ☀️🇮🇹🍕📚🍦🌅 #uom_goabroad Here are photos from my end of year trip from Yosemite, Zion and Joshua Tree National Parks from our Global Ambassador Lucy 🧡 #uomgoabroad #globalambassador Some pics from our summer school students who are currently my in Bordeaux, France (yes, the summer school has its very own dog) ☀🇫🇷🥐 #uomgoabroad These are from my journey on the California Zephyr Amtrak train, from Chicago to San Francisco. The journey was 56 hours but the views of the Rockies and Sierra Nevada were incredible! It is a great trip to do to see more of the USA and also be more sustainable as your carbon emissions are much lower travelling by train compared to flying. - GA Lucy 🚉 #uom_goabroad #globalambassador The last year of my life without a doubt has been the most incredible. I met wonderful people, tasted things I couldn't have imagined and saw the most beautiful sights. Not only did I get to learn a language, but I got to learn about our amazing world and more importantly, Mexico. In my last few weeks, I had the privilege of continuing my travels within Mexico and getting to see how my friends from UDLAP grew up and the culture that raised them. With so many colours even in the streets, its no surprise my friends are so joyful. México, te extraño mucho <3 🇲🇽🧡 Sunny afternoon in Amsterdam - GA Lily ☀️🇳🇱 Go Abroad is hiring! 📣
